The Great New Wonderful
Directed by Danny Leiner
After the seemingly sophomoric but subtly subversive comedy Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, which left the audience with its sides split at last year's Los Angeles Film Festival, director Danny Leiner turns his attention to more serious subject matter, but without losing his sense of humor. The Great New Wonderful tells the stories of five sets of New Yorkers living in a post-9/11 world. Each storyline has its own graceful arc, portraying people in a state of transition‹in a world that has been fundamentally altered. As a whole, the stories combine to show us the resilience of the human spirit.

Hustle & Flow
Directed by Craig Brewer
Produced by John Singleton (Boyz n¹ the Hood, Poetic Justice, Baby Boy) and Stephanie Allain, Hustle & Flow is the redemptive story of a Memphis street hustler (Terence Howard) who struggles to break out of his gritty world to fulfill his life long dream of becoming a respected rap musician. The film stars Terrence Howard, Ludacris, Isaac Hayes, DJ Qualls, Anthony Anderson, Taryn Manning, Taraji Henson, Elise Neal, and Paula Jai Parker.

The Son of the Sheik
Directed by George Fitzmaurice
Written by Fred de Gresac and Frances Marion
Rudolph Valentino stars as an impetuous young man who falls for a bejeweled street dancer with unsavory family ties. This special screening will feature live organ accompaniment by Robert Israel.

Stagedoor
Directed by Alexandra Shiva
Imagine being a teenager who dreams of starring on Broadway and whose iPod is filled with music from Sweeney Todd and West Side Story instead of Beyonce and Eminem. Luckily for them, there¹s Stagedoor Manor, a summer camp that is a haven for self-proclaimed "theater geeks." Stagedoor follows five of these kids over one summer as they learn their lines, memorize dance steps, and experience the angst of auditions. The campers run the gamut from Broadway veterans to theatrical novices. Stagedoor offers a compassionate look into their inner lives as they use theater to navigate adolescence and figure out who they are and who they want to be.
