We can think of no one better than Timur Bekmambetov, director of the stunningly stylish Russian Night Watch series, to create a hero for a new generation by bringing Mark Millar’s darkly humorous cult comic book to the screen. Bekmambetov applies his visionary skills with action and effects to the story of Wesley Gibson, an apathetic office drone resigned to accepting the dross that life keeps throwing his way. Then, after the murder of his estranged father, Wes encounters Fox, and everything changes. As deadly as she is beautiful, Fox is a member of a secret group of assassins who live by an ancient code to kill according to fate’s orders. Offering revenge for his father’s death, the Fraternity helps Wes discover and hone dormant deadly reflexes that he never imagined. But Wes begins to discover that there is more to his new associates than he first imagined and must soon decide if he will become the master of his own destiny.
