Rolando Colla’s bittersweet tale of lost innocence and first love swept the Swiss Film Awards this year. The setting is a summer seaside camping ground in Tuscany, where a troubled 12-year-old boy, who prides himself on feeling nothing, camps out with his mom and brutish, abusive father. Fleeing his parents’ fights, he takes up with a new set of friends, who sneak into an abandoned shack to play ever more dangerous games The one playmate he can’t take his eyes off Marie, the girl his father says is too good for him. Perhaps with Marie he can take his first fearful steps into a world of feeling.
