Lauren Greenfield’s work, be it still photography or documentary film, often pulls back the veil on America’s upper classes. Her latest work is her most impressive yet, both for its unfettered access to its subjects and its timely ability to tap into the current financial zeitgeist.
Queen of Versailles follows an American family, led by a billionaire real estate mogul and his trippy wife, as they endeavor to build the world’s largest single family home. The film takes an unexpected turn when the economy utterly collapses, and the family is thrown into an unfamiliar world where they actually have to curb their insanely lavish habits.
