In the Air and On the Go: Pioneer Filmmaking
In the Air and On the Go: Pioneer Filmmaking
plays with Departure Date
Conversations and Talks
(60 mins)
The explosion of portable media players, compact cameras and internet platforms offers endless opportunities to filmmakers ready to take the plunge into the unknown.

Departure Date is the first film to take extreme location shooting (and editing) to a new high: 35,000 feet. Starring Oscar-nominated Gena Rowlands, Olive is the first full-length film shot entirely on a camera phone. Hear from the directors of these two films, Kat Coiro and Hooman Khalili, as well as their cinematographers Doug Chamberlain and Patrick Gilles, and learn how they pulled it off. Find out through their experiences how making these unique films has stretched their imagination and strengthened their creative muscles.

This session will include a screening of the short Departure Date, shot on three different airlines, and clips from the feature film Olive.

Moderated by John McKeown, First Assistant Director, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas, 50/50
